Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is back on social media after she and Pete Davidson called off their engagement.

On Monday (October 15), the 25-year-old singer took to Instagram to share a photo from rehearsals for A Very Wicked Halloween – a concert for Wicked’s 15th anniversary on Broadway, which she is part of.

She uploaded a snap of her script, and wrote:

“Honored to be included in this celebration of 15 years of my favorite musical of all time 💚 wouldn’t miss it for the whole universe #wicked15.”

By the looks of the script she shared, Ariana will be singing the role of Elphaba. Also in the concert are Pentatonix, Idina Menzel (Wicked’s original Elphaba), and Kristin Chenoweth (the original Glinda). A Very Wicked Halloween will air on October 29, 10pm, on NBC.

This post marks the first time we’ve heard from Ariana since news broke of her engagement being called off.

In more Ariana – Pete breakup news…

A source has dished to ET that Ariana was the one to end things, stating:

“Ariana made the final decision. It was time to realize this wasn’t the right time for them and Pete is incredibly heartbroken. Pete is still so in love with her. He wanted his whole world to revolve around her but she was emotionally unavailable.

He realizes she was at her limit with pressure from everyone and everything around her. There were days she just wanted to run away from the world just to get some peace and quiet and peace of mind. Pete had to give her that space out of love.”

The source went on to talk about the ex-couple’s “very special connection”:

“Ariana and Pete didn’t plan this abrupt split, but they both know this breakup is the right decision for them right now. Their family and friends stand behind their decision entirely and Ariana’s team feels this will give her time to heal.

They got engaged because they both felt this instant connection and even now after their split they are still deeply in love. But their timing has truly affected their plans and made it impossible for them to make it work at the moment. … They have a very special connection, partly because Pete has been there for Ariana during a painful time in her life. She will forever and always be grateful to Pete.”

They add that Ariana and Pete are not ruling out the possibility of making their relationship work:

“They have not stopped talking since they made the decision to split and in fact they plan on trying to stay close friends or maybe one day even more than that. They are remaining positive and looking forward to a future together where they may be best friends and still haven’t ruled out the possibility of one day making their relationship work.

They just know that they cannot be engaged right now or be in a serious relationship because of the stress Ariana has had to face recently and the stress of their careers. Pete’s acting career has taken off. He signed on to so many projects and feature films and Ariana has a huge album to promote. And they just barely have time for that.

They want to make sure if they ever do decide one day to make it work that they make their relationship a priority. They both want a family one day and realize they will have to step back a bit from their careers to do that.

They love and trust each other so much and want to keep the option open for a further together.”

Another source revealed to People that Ariana and Pete could still “totally get back together”:

“Their engagement is off, but they still plan on spending time together. It’s not like they split and never plan on seeing each other again. They just decided to slow things down.

She realized that planning a wedding right now felt very rushed. It’s not what she wants to do right now. She doesn’t want to make any rushed decisions and has decided to take a step back instead.

They totally could get back together because who knows with those two. Honestly who knows — they were fully together on Saturday.”

And yet another source reiterated that the couple are “not totally over”:

“It’s not totally over. She supported him at SNL this weekend, and with them, you never know, [though they admit] the engagement being called off was very sudden. They put on this front of being so happy but there were lots of fights and struggles behind the scenes.”
