Disney Channel Original Movie LET IT SHINE Tonight at 8 PM/7 PM Central!

Let It Shine

We here at Popstar are beyond excited for tonight’s premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie LET IT SHINE. In the movie, the character of Cyrus (played by Tyler James Williams) has a big crush on Roxie (played by Coco Jones), who’s both his childhood friend and a rising pop star. Cyrus secretly dreams of being a hip-hop artist himself but is too shy to go for his dreams – and too afraid to show his preacher dad that hip-hop music can have a positive message.

Cyrus writes a really sweet rhyme about Roxie that he enters it with a photo of him and his outgoing best friend Kris (played by Trevor Jackson) into a big contest her record label holds. It ends up winning the contest but unfortunately Kris mistakenly gets credit for it.And since Roxie thinks it was Kris who wrote the verse, she starts to have feelings for him. Instead of stepping up and saying the heartfelt rhyme was actually his work, Cyrus remains quiet and has to deal with the aftermath.

Have you ever been shy like Cyrus ? Have you ever backed out of something that was really important to you or not followed your dreams because you were afraid that you might get laughed at or that your classmates wouldn’t accept you? We’ve totally been there – we didn’t try out for the school play because we were afraid we’d get laughed at, and we didn’t take guitar lessons because everyone else was playing sports instead. It’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing and stand in the background – but when you do that, you lose part of yourself! And that’s why we loved LET IT SHINE so much. It made us unafraid to take a stand, to go for our dreams, and to make our voices heard! We’d love for you to share your stories below and can’t wait to hear what you thought about Let It Shine!
Don’t forget to tune in Friday night at 8 PM/7 PM Central only on Disney Channel!
