Tell us about your character in “Jessica Darling’s ‘It List’”!
I play the role of “Bridget” in Jessica Darling’s It List. In the beginning of the film, Bridget is Jessica’s best friend. They’ve lived across from each other and have been besties since basically birth, but when school starts, things begin to change. Bridget gets a new do, has her braces removed and buys a new wardrobe. So on the first day of school, Bridget has gone from total
geek to totally chic, while Jessica struggles to find her place.
What drew you to the role?
Casting first sent me the audition for the role of Jessica, but I didn’t think I was right for Jessica. I read the breakdown for Bridget and I asked my manager if I could audition for her. Bridget is similar to me in a couple of ways. She is a bundle of nervous energy and very layered, so I felt like I could bring her to life the best.
What was your experience like filming it?
It was so much fun. I do a lot of serious films, so it was nice to do a film with kids my own age. Ali Scher is a very good director. She can direct kids well. Not all directors can do this. She was able to get great performances out of all the actors in the film. I watched the screening with the rest of the cast and EVERYONE is fantastic, funny, and believable. There are even a few emotional scenes that EVERY kid in middle school will relate to.
Were there any memorable/funny behind-the-scenes set moments you can share with us?
In my first scene as Bridget, she wears braces, so applying and wearing those things and trying to talk was a crazy experience! It was a blast hanging out with Chloe East, Ashley Liao, Eva Bella, Kyla Drew, and Jane Widdop in our trailers during our lunch breaks. Also, the cheerleaders were a lot of fun. They were a real cheerleading squad that was kind enough to take in a newbie cheerleader [me] and show her the ropes. I had a lot of fun working with the coach and learning the routine with the cheerleaders on set.
What was it like working with Debby Ryan?
I didn’t get to work with Debby very much, but I did work with her mother Sandy, a lot. Sandy was on set almost everyday and was very encouraging and supportive.
Yes, of course. Debby is the sweetest person. I don’t live in California, so we stay in touch by Tweeting and Instagramming each other. I can’t wait to see her at the premiere for the film.
What do you hope viewers take away from this movie?
I hope viewers will identify with some of the characters and be inspired to be proud of who they are and not try to be anyone other than themselves. I loved the movie! I laughed and cried a little so I hope viewers can connect to the characters in “Jessica Darling’s It List.” It would be amazing if we could make the next two books in the series to see what happens to all the characters.
You’ve had the chance to star alongside many big names – who is your ultimate dream costar?
My ultimate male co-star is Ryan Gosling. I don’t think I have ever seen him give a bad performance and he is so good at creating characters and bringing them to life. My ultimate female co-star is Jennifer Lawrence for the same reason.
What are some of your favorite summer activities?
I love to run and swim. I could hang out by the pool all day long.
I’m a casual girl. I love a comfy t-shirt, converse and jeans. You’ll see me sporting a baseball cap every once in a while.
I love Forever 21 and H&M.
What are some of your must-have beauty essentials?
I keep things pretty natural. I use a little concealer and mascara, if I am going out.
It’s a tie: Justin Timberlake’s – “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and Melanie Martinez’ – “Alphabet Boy”
What’s something you’re hoping to cross off your bucket list this year?
I’ve actually already crossed some things off this year. I went on a cross-country trip with my mom and sister on my way to Los Angeles to promote “Jessica Darling’s It List.” I went to the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, and to this really cool spot in Santa Rosa, New Mexico called “Blue Hole.” Blue Hole is this 81-foot deep circular lake in the middle of the desert. It’s totally awesome! I jumped off the cliff into the lake. I Vlogged about it on my YouTube channel—Blue Hole Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bil8vgHOnc Grand Canyon Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbyx1dK5Qzk
I just wanna say… I am so grateful for everything I’ve been able to do. I’m from the smallest town you can ever imagine, but I am still able to participate in Hollywood and be an actor. If you have a dream of doing something, no matter how crazy it may seem to others, go for it! And please check out “Jessica Darling’s It List” on June 21st! Love you!
