Ever since Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson started making it big they have been compared to and pitted against one another. The two were both discovered on YouTube, had floppy hair (and coincidentally both now choose to slick it back) and both boys’ music is pop with a bit of hip-hop swag. But despite the alleged rivalry, Justin and Cody have always maintained that there is no actually competition between them. And, now that Cody is working with Justin’s manager Scooter, the guys have managed to forge a real friendship. Last week, however, one not so nice radio DJ put that friendship to the test!

Justin had an interview with the radio show Johnjay and Rich in the Morning to promote his upcoming album, Believe. But before Justin could even start talking about his cool new sound, the host asked nastily, “Am I hearing this right, do you have Cody Simpson on your new CD? Okay good, you wouldn’t want him.” Can you say, “Dramz!”? Being the gentleman he is, Justin stood up for his new friend, telling the host to “be nice.”

When Popstar! chatted with Cody at his Radio Disney Take Over earlier this week, we had to get Cody’s side of the story. “It’s cool [that Justin stood up for me],” says Cody. “I think something that people are starting to see is that with everyone in the new generation it’s all love and everyone supports one another…Justin and I have a great relationship at the moment. He’s been an incredible encouragement to what I do, and obviously it showed in the interview that he’s not going to take any BS from people about friends and fellow artists.”

Cody also tells a touching story about how he stood up for his good friend Jessica Jarrell when she was being bullied online!
