One can only imagine the musical genius of Selah Marley- daughter to Lauryn Hill, granddaughter to Bob Marley and daughter to Rohan. For the longest time she has been modelling for big brands like Ivy Park, Fenty, Rag & Bone and Yeezy. But at long last-at the age of 19, she has finally broken out in the industry dropping ‘Breathe.’
Like her mother, she has definitely found her sound and sounds like no one else. She describes her music as vulnerable, raw, and intimate. That despite her not being showy about her passion for music, when she does create something- it’s very deep.
Selah is a student at NYU and shares that the single is an important statement. She told W Magazine, “Essentially, that song for me is me standing up for myself—or more standing up to myself. Because it’s clear I’m talking about some guy, some love interest that I’m not dealing with anymore, that I’m over it.”
“Listen, I’m good. I’m on to better things. I’m chasing my ambitions now. I’m looking towards a better lifetime. I can see now my life is not just about being someone’s girlfriend. It’s more than that.”
Well, it is for sure a message that needs to be heard, Selah. And with your voice? We are floored.
