A longtime friend of Mac Miller is opening up about the rapper’s relationship with Ariana Grande.
In the wake of Mac’s sudden passing, Shane Powers spoke candidly about his friend’s battles with addiction in the latest episode of his podcast, The Shane Show – and credited Ariana for how involved and supportive she was of his sobriety journey during the course of their relationship.
Here’s what Shane said about Ariana:
“[Mac and Ariana] were very much in love and I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f**king G to him. There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana.
I saw that, I was around it, I took phone calls from her. ‘How do I help? What do I do?’ This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy.”
Shane went on to talk about how good Ariana was for Mac, saying:
“Whether he’s an addict or not, the way that Mac partied was not healthy. [And] there was no one in his life more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober.
[Ariana] was an unbelievably stabilizing force in his life and she was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober and helping him get sober. She was all about him being healthy. Period.”
Mac and Ariana were together for almost two years before going their separate ways in May 2018.
Mac passed away on Friday (September 7) of an apparent overdose. Ariana has yet to publicly break her silence on her ex’s death – though she did share a sweet, black-and-white snap of Mac on her Instagram account on Saturday (September 8), which she left captionless.
Our thoughts continue to be with Malcom’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
