Selena Gomez is currently in a mental health facility seeking treatment following an emotional breakdown.
It is being reported that Selena had a huge breakdown while at the hospital.
The 26-year-old singer was hospitalized twice in the last couple of weeks. Sources revealed to TMZ that Selena was at home in her Studio City, CA residence the last week of September when the first medical crisis hit – she became bleak and emotional when her white blood cell count turned alarmingly low following her kidney transplant last year. She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Selena was apparently released a few days later, but then had to be readmitted late last week; her low blood count had lingered, and this sent Selena spiraling.
She was admitted again into the hospital. Soon after, however, she wanted to leave and began insisting she be discharged. Doctors refused, saying she couldn’t go home just yet. That triggered a huge emotional breakdown for Selena; according to TMZ, she “freaked out”, and tried ripping the IV’s out of her body.
An insider told PEOPLE:
“She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point.
She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast.”
Selena is reportedly at an East Coast psychiatric facility receiving dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). She’s undergone this form of therapy in the past. DBT treats various mental health disorders.
If you can recall, on September 23 Selena declared she was taking a break from social media, stating:
“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember— negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”
Our thoughts and well-wishes go out to Selena during this difficult time.
