Surprise! There might be a new engaged celeb couple in town.
When Aaron was awarded the NFL’s MVP – his third – during Saturday’s (February 6) 2021 NFL Honors virtual ceremony, he very casually dropped a bit of news about his personal life during his acceptance speech – and now, just about everyone can’t stop buzzing about what it all means.
“Thank you so much, it’s honor to win this award for the third time,” Aaron says in the video. “2020 was definitely a crazy year filled with lots of change, growth, and some amazing memorable moments.”
“180 straight days of getting my nose hairs scraped, playing for very little fans or no fans in the stands the entire season,” he continued. “I got engaged and I played some of the best football of my career.”
Plus, among the people he thanked for their support was his “fiancée.”
“I played some of the best football of my career,” he said. “So I’d like to thank first and foremost my teammates for their support, inspiration, protection and incredible play on the field. The coaching staff for their efforts to make this fun every single week, the energy, the positivity and the daily presentations really kept us going. Off the field, I got a really great group of people that support me. So, I’d like to thank my team … my fiancée.”
While Aaron didn’t exactly drop any names, many are speculating that the fiancée he’s talking about could be Shailene Woodley.
Last week, Aaron and Shailene made headlines when reports came out that the two had struck up a “private and low key” romance.
According to E! News, the two are dating. “They have kept things private and low key,” an insider tells the outlet, but they’re totally “going strong.”
“They have seen each other and been in touch,” the insider continues. “They continue to talk and see each other when they can. They are both focused on their careers but they also make time for each other.”
It appears they’ve made LDR work – Aaron has been “very focused on his season” while Shailene was filming Misanthrope in Montreal. The Green Bay Packers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game on January 24 though. However, based on his acceptance speech, it appears they’ve taken things to the next level.
Aaron wouldn’t be the first athlete that Shailene is dating – she was previously in a relationship with rugby player Ben Volavola, whom she dated from 2017 until April of 2020.
“We were very much on the road to marriage and children,” Shailene said in an interview with Bustle of her relationship with Ben last year. “I realized I was still at an age where I wasn’t able to fully commit. I couldn’t be available to him in the way that I wanted to be. I didn’t fully love myself.”
Aaron, on the other hand, was linked to racecar driver Danica Patrick – but the two split last July after two years together. However, he had been in a relationship with another actress prior – he and Olivia Munn dated for three years before splitting in 2017.
It’s still unclear when or how Aaron and Shailene met and started dating – they haven’t addressed rumors of their romance either.
