Adele returned to the stage on Saturday (October 24) – but it wasn’t for music.
Instead, the 32-year-old songstress brought on the laughs as Saturday Night Live’s host for the episode.
Last week, it was announced that the “Hello” singer would be taking on hosting duties on the show, which Adele reflected on as a “full circle” moment for her – being that her appearance as musical guest on the show 12 years ago helped launch her singing career in the U.S.
Despite stepping away from the spotlight in recent years, Adele has never been far from the headlines. And, during her opening monologue, she addressed some of the reports about her – like speculations about new music coming.
“I know there’s a lot of chatter about me being the host. Like, ‘Why is she not the musical guest?’ and stuff like that. Well, there’s a couple of reasons: My album’s not finished, and I’m too scared to do both,” Adele shared, adding, “I’d rather just put on wigs, have a glass of wine or six, and see what happens!”
She also jokingly addressed all the buzz surrounding her weight loss.
“I know I look different than when you last saw me, but because of the COVID restrictions and the travel ban, I had to travel light and I could only bring only half of me, and this is the half I chose,” she shared, before dipping into a small curtsy.
Later on in the show, the singer also good-naturedly poked fun at her love life during The Bachelor sketch.
“Hi, I’m Adele Adkins. I’m 32. You may know me from being the singer, Adele. I’m here because I’ve had a lot of heartbreak in my life. First at 19, and then sort of famously at 21, and then even more famously at 25,” Adele said, referring to the names of her three hit albums, which were all named to coincide with her age when she created them. “But I have a really good feeling about Ben K. It’s only night one, but I can already tell he’s going to be the next love of my life.”
But Adele didn’t just use those pipes for talking – during the parody skit, she also belted out snippets from her hits, including “Hello,” “Rolling In The Deep,” and “Someone Like You.”
While Adele isn’t a stranger to being on the SNL stage, it’s her first time to host the show – and she totally fangirled over H.E.R. being the musical guest.
