Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are starring in a new rom-com together—but their on-screen chemistry might have already debuted on Instagram.

On June 30, the You star took to Instagram to post a cheeky video praising Fahy’s performance in Netflix’s Sirens. Walking through the streets of New York, Badgley declared, “Hot city! Hot city! So, ok I don’t normally do this but my wife and I just finished Sirens. Ok Sirens. Want to give her her flowers. Obviously there’s Julianne [Moore], there’s Kevin [Bacon], there’s Millie [Alcock], but there’s this Meghann Fahy, this newcomer this like refreshing, gawky, beauty – love it. Love you.”

That kicked off a humorous and delightfully awkward comment thread between the two actors.

“Penn! This is so kind. Thank you. Tell Domino I say hi. And that her taste is flawless,” Fahy replied.

Penn quickly corrected: “Our* taste. Dom says Hi!”

“Oops haha. Gawky tho,” Fahy responded with a quizzical emoji.

“I meant it as a compliment!” Penn insisted. “Long arms are so gorgeous but historically less featured.”

Fahy then responded with, “Chill on the body stuff.”

“Whoa I’ve obviously been very supportive and complimentary but this feels like a trap,” Penn wrote.

Fahy had the last word: “There you go again with that trapping thing. Heard you did a lot of that on your show. I never watched it.”

Now it turns out that the viral exchange might have been the perfect warm-up for their next project. Badgley and Fahy will co-star in You Deserve Each Other, a rom-com adapted from Sarah Hogle’s popular novel.

Described as a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers story, the film follows Naomi and Nick, an engaged couple who’ve secretly fallen out of love. Each tries to sabotage the other into calling off the wedding through petty pranks and emotional warfare—only to rediscover their love along the way.

The film is being helmed by rom-com power duo Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, whose writing credits include Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You.

With the playful Instagram banter and this buzzy casting, it looks like fans are in for a charmingly chaotic love story on screen—and off.
