The 2025 American Music Awards lit up Las Vegas on May 26, turning the Fontainebleau into a hub of musical celebration. Hosted by the ever-dazzling Jennifer Lopez, the evening kicked off with a high-energy performance where J.Lo danced through 23 of the year’s top hits in just six minutes.
“Tonight, the spotlight belongs to you because this is the world’s largest fan voting award show where you decide the winners,” Lopez told the crowd during her monologue after the performance. “And this year, yes, there were more votes than ever before.”
Billie Eilish, though absent due to her world tour, dominated the night with seven awards, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Beyoncé made history by winning Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album, marking her first AMA wins in the country category.
SZA took home Favorite R&B Song and Favorite Female R&B Artist, while Eminem secured Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album. Other notable winners included Becky G for Favorite Female Latin Artist, Gracie Abrams as Best New Artist, and Post Malone for Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Song. Doechii’s “Anxiety” was named Social Song of the Year, and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars won both Favorite Music Video and Collaboration of the Year for “Die With A Smile.” Bruno also snagged Favorite Male Pop Artist, and Gaga was honored as Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist.
The night also celebrated legends, with Janet Jackson receiving the Icon Award. She performed a medley of her hits, including “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You.” In her acceptance speech, Jackson shared, “I’m so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon. My family, myself, our dream wasn’t ever to be famous; we weren’t raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing and singing, and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication.”
Rod Stewart was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He reflected, “The reason I got into it was because I had this burning ambition to sing. It’s all I wanted to do. I didn’t want to be rich or famous, and here I am a few years later, picking up this wonderful award. Thank you so much.” He then performed his classic “Forever Young.”
The evening featured performances from Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson, Alex Warren, and Reneé Rapp. Presenters included Alix Earle, Cara Delevingne, Ciara, Dan + Shay, Dylan Efron, Jordan Chiles, Kai Cenat, Megan Moroney, Nikki Glaser, Shaboozey, Tiffany Haddish, and Wayne Brady.
Kendrick Lamar led the nominations with ten, followed by Post Malone with eight, and Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey with seven each. Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, and Taylor Swift each earned six nominations.
Coinciding with Memorial Day, the event also paid tribute to veterans and service members throughout the night.
