Andrew Garfield recently shared a fun behind-the-scenes story about filming his steamy new romantic drama We Live in Time alongside Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh. The 41-year-old actor opened up about a particularly memorable moment during an intimate scene with Florence, where things got so heated they didn’t even hear the director call “cut.”

In the highly anticipated A24 film, Andrew plays Tobias, while Florence takes on the role of Almut. The movie follows their characters’ unexpected encounter, leading them down a path where they learn to value each fleeting moment of their unconventional love story. With the themes of time and connection woven into the plot, the movie promises to tug at heartstrings and deliver some powerful performances.

But when it comes to one of the more intimate scenes, Andrew and Florence found themselves a little too wrapped up in the moment.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Andrew shared the hilarious and candid story about how they kept acting during a passionate sex scene, even though filming had already stopped. “She would just laugh at me because she’s very confident in her body and her sexuality and her being. Florence is Florence,” Andrew began, describing how comfortable Florence was on set. He added that her ease and confidence helped him feel more at ease, too, as they dove into filming.

The actor went on to explain that during their first take of this “very intimate, passionate sex scene,” things got a bit carried away. “The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it, and we get into it, as it were,” he shared. “And we go a little bit further than we were meant to just because we don’t hear ‘cut’ and it’s feeling safe, and we’re kind of like, ‘Okay let’s go to the next thing and the next thing and we’ll let this progress.’”

Andrew continued, “At a certain point, both of us, I feel like we were telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a long take.’” The two actors, completely in the moment, thought they were still shooting, unaware that the rest of the crew had already wrapped up the scene.

It wasn’t until Andrew finally looked up that he realized something was off. “I look up and in the corner is Stuart [the director] and our boom operator,” he said. “Stuart has the camera by his side and is turned into the wall.”

The cameraman and boom operator had stopped filming, and there was Andrew and Florence, still deep in the scene. It seems like the chemistry between the two actors was so palpable that even the crew decided to give them a moment!

The story not only gives fans a sneak peek into the fun dynamic between Andrew and Florence but also highlights the level of trust and comfort they had with each other while working on such an intimate project. Florence’s confidence and Andrew’s humor about the situation make it clear that the two actors had a great working relationship, which will no doubt translate into some powerful onscreen chemistry.

We Live in Time promises to deliver a heartfelt and emotional journey, and if this story is any indication, fans can expect some seriously intense moments between the two stars. For now, we’ll just have to wait to see the full film and the sizzling performances Andrew and Florence have cooked up.

Until then, it’s safe to say that Andrew’s behind-the-scenes story is one fans won’t forget anytime soon!
