Anne Hathaway is owning up to a past interview mishap, and it’s catching a lot of attention. Norwegian entertainment journalist Kjersti Flaa recently shared an update about her 2012 interview with Hathaway during the Les Misérables press tour, revealing that the Hollywood star personally reached out to apologize for the encounter.
In a video posted over the weekend, Flaa revisited their exchange from years ago, highlighting some tense moments that occurred during what should have been a routine press interview. Back then, Flaa tried to add some fun to the interview by suggesting that she and Hathaway could sing the questions and answers to each other. However, Hathaway was quick to shut down the idea with a firm “no.”
The interview didn’t improve much from there. Flaa asked Hathaway a couple of light-hearted questions, but the answers were surprisingly curt. When asked, “Do you feel that love was more passionate back then, or people sacrifice more for love than we do today?” Hathaway responded with a simple, “No.” Flaa then tried to change the subject, asking, “Do you remember your first crush?” but again received a brief, “No,” from the actress.
Now, more than a decade later, Hathaway has seen the resurfaced interview clips, and she reached out to Flaa to explain her side of the story.
In her update, Flaa revealed that she received an unexpected email from Hathaway’s publicist. “Yesterday I did receive an email. It was from Anne Hathaway’s publicist, and he forwarded a message to me from Anne Hathaway,” she said, noting that she was completely taken by surprise. “I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never gonna even see that video, but she did. And she did something pretty amazing.”
Hathaway’s message was heartfelt and sincere. According to Flaa, Hathaway explained what she had been going through at the time of the interview, and she apologized for giving what she called an “awful interview.” Flat said: “She sent me a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for being…giving me an awful interview, basically. It was so touching to me.
Just talking about it makes me almost teary-eyed, ’cause I was just so grateful that she did that.”
While Hathaway’s apology was clearly meaningful, don’t expect to hear every detail. Flaa explained that she and Hathaway had agreed to keep the contents of the email private. “We decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did.”
This moment of reflection and reconciliation shows Hathaway’s willingness to own her past actions and make amends. It also highlights the power of a sincere apology—even when years have passed since the original event. Hathaway’s gesture clearly made an impact, and Flaa’s emotional response proves just how much a simple act of kindness can mean.
