The onscreen chemistry between The Kissing Booth 2 co-stars Joey King and Taylor Zakhar Perez had many fans majorly shipping Elle and Marco together.
In the movie, Joey’s character, Elle, was caught in a love triangle with Taylor’s character, Marco, and her high school sweetheart from the first film whom Elle was in an LDR with, Noah, portrayed by Jacob Elordi. And fans were divided about which pairing to root for.
Joey even posted a poll on Twitter on whether fans were Team Noah or Team Marco – 63% were Team Noah, and 37% were Team Marco.
When Joey was asked in an interview with Variety, about which team she was on, here’s what she had to say:
“Oh, that is such a good question. I don’t want to say what team I’m on, but I just keep dropping hints every now and then on my Instagram, and little Easter eggs in my interviews. I am so excited for those hashtags to be thrown around when the movie comes out. It’s kind of like that Edward-and-Jacob thing in Twilight…I was team Edward. I always was like, ‘Robert Pattinson — oh, my God.’”
But when fans noticed the Joey and Taylor were spending a lot of time together IRL, many have started wondering if a little something something spilled over IRL.
When The Kissing Booth 2 hit no. 1 on Netflix, the two stars reunited in her Los Angeles home to celebrate the big news. Joey shared a photo of her and Taylor hugging on Instagram Story, assuring fans that they have both tested negative for COVID-19 so they could safely reunite.
Then, last weekend, the two went on a road trip together, along with Taylor’s sister, Maria, and a few friends. The two shared a bunch of similar photos from their “road trip,” which included their time swimming by a waterfall with their friends.
And, well, a lot of fans are now speculating that Team Elle-and-Marco is so happening IRL.
BUT, amid the romance rumors, Taylor is spilling the tea on what’s what.
“I know, we went away this weekend for some friends’ birthdays, and her birthday, and everyone kinda freaked about it. I will say that we are not dating,” Taylor told Access in a recent interview.
“We just became really close during filming, but then we became even closer after filming because we live really close to each other,” he added. “I think we’re like a three or four minute drive from each other. We’re kind of each other’s accountability partners during quarantine. So we got to hang out, make sure that we weren’t seeing anybody outside of the circle of people that we trusted.”
Sorry shippers. But, hey, who knows what will happen in The Kissing Booth 3, right?
