Ariana DeBose is setting the record straight after fans speculated that she was taking sides in an ongoing controversy involving her West Side Story co-star Rachel Zegler and the Platt family.
The drama began when Jonah Platt—son of producer Marc Platt—criticized Rachel online, seemingly blaming her for Snow White’s box office performance due to her political comments. “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,” Jonah wrote in a post that has since been deleted.
Ariana shocked fans when she reposted that exact quote to her Instagram Stories.
However, after realizing the connection to the controversy, she quickly deleted it and clarified her intentions.
“I post quotes all the time and thought this one was meaningful. Will fully cop to the fact I did not do any research on where this quote came from, nor did I know of the connection until it was pointed out to me,” she explained. “I have no intention of inserting myself into a news cycle. This is not the first time I’ve posted about dealing with narcissism and it probably won’t be the last, but next time I’ll be sure to clarify its origins first.”
Marc Platt, a well-known Hollywood producer, has worked on films like Wicked, The Little Mermaid, and La La Land, while his son Jonah is best known for playing Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway. Meanwhile, Marc’s other son, Ben Platt, is a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner.
