Armie Hammer has been the subject of much controversy online following a number of controversial and graphic private messages he allegedly wrote leaked.

While the alleged DMs have not been confirmed to be indeed written by the Call Me By Your Name actor, Armie has released a statement addressing the “vicious and spurious online attacks.”

He also announced that he’s stepping down from his role in the upcoming rom-com Shotgun Wedding, where he was set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez.

“I’m not responding to these bulls–t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” he said in a statement. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

A production spokesman also issued a statement, “Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.”

According to Entertainment Tonight, the actor’s role will be recast.

Armie and estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers share two children together – Harper and Ford, whom Armie recently reunited with after not seeing them for months.
