Ashton Kutcher is opening up about a health scare that he went through.
The 44-year-old actor revealed that two years ago, he was diagnosed with a “super rare” condition that resulted in him suffering problems with his vision, hearing, and equilibrium. His medical condition impacted his blood vessels and led to swelling.
In a clip from an upcoming episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge, Ashton said:
“Like two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis that, like, knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out, like, all my equilibrium.
You don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone. Until you go, ‘I don’t know it I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if Im ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again.”
Ashton said that it took him a year to fully recover:
“Lucky to be alive.”
After the clip was released and made the rounds, Ashton took to social media to make a clarification about his health reveal. He wrote a message on Twitter to make it clear that he is now fully recovered:
“Before there are a bunch of rumors / chatter / whatever out there. Yes, I had a rare vasculitis episode 3 yrs ago. (Autoimmune flair up) I had some impairments hear, vision, balance issues right after.
I fully recovered. All good. Moving on. See you at the 2022 NY Marathon w/Thorn.”
The Mayo Clinic says:
“Vasculitis involves inflammation of the blood vessels. The inflammation can cause the walls of the blood vessels to thicken, which reduces the width of the passageway through the vessel. If blood flow is restricted, it can result in organ and tissue damage.”
