It’s official: Bad Bunny’s got new music coming our way — and Spotify’s For The Record Podcast has got the exclusive scoop.
In a new appearance on For The Record, the Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter and actor confirmed that he is currently working on a new album. Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, revealed the exciting update in an exclusive with For The Record host Neil Curry.
When asked about what fans can look forward to from him in 2022, Bad Bunny stated:
“It’s gonna be the same. I’m working on my new project, my new album…”
Yes, you read right. NEW. ALBUM.
His confirmation comes as a very welcome surprise to music lovers all over the world who had been eagerly awaiting his new music. After all, after dropping many hot tracks back in 2020, Bad Bunny did not release an album this year.
Still, even with a lack of new releases in 2021, For The Record had some great news for the 27-year-old artist: Neil announced that Bad Bunny was Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist of the year!During the interview, he told Bad Bunny:
“Yo man, I just came by because I have to tell you some news. Last year, you were the number one streamed artist on Spotify in 2020. You didn’t drop any albums this year, man. But check it out: You’re still the number one streamed artist in the world on Spotify for 2021, brother. Congrats!
Bunch of albums in 2020, no albums in 2021 you’re still the number one streamed artist in the world on Spotify!”
To which Bad Bunny graciously responded:
“Thank you and gracias to Spotify, thank you for everything.”
Bad Bunny also spoke about his other plans for the coming year:
“I’m acting, I’m doing everything, I’m wrestling… So I hope 2022 is gonna be great.”
Coming in third among Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist Of 2021 is K-Pop sensation BTS, and taking the runner-up spot is Taylor Swift.
For The Record also delved into the artists who most appeared in Spotify’s users’ Wrapped for 2021. Wrapped is the end-of-year feature of Spotify which gives you a personalized playlist based on the songs and artists you most listened to throughout the year.
Two of the artists who had a major presence in 2021’s Wrapped are Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran. And they both had messages for their fans —
Dua Lipa:
“Hi! This is Dua Lipa. Thank you for listening to my music and getting me on your Wrapped this year. [kiss]”
Ed Sheeran:
“Hi! This is Ed Sheeran. Thank you so much for listening to me this year. I’m so happy to be on your 2021 Wrapped.”
