Bebe Rexha recently shared an emotional moment with her fans, revealing that she was allegedly a victim of a hate crime at Munich Airport in Germany. The 34-year-old singer, known for hits like “Meant to Be,” took to her Instagram stories on Saturday (August 17) to document the distressing experience.
In a tearful video, Bebe explained that she had been banned from her flight after speaking to a security guard in Albanian, a language she assumed he might understand. Bebe, who is of Albanian descent, expressed her disbelief and frustration, suggesting that the incident was rooted in discrimination.
“I’ve been threatened because I thought the security agent was Albanian,” she wrote in text overlaying the video. “I spoke to him in Albanian, asking where to get my ticket, and now he is banning me from the flight.”
Bebe’s voice trembled as she recounted the incident, clearly shaken by the experience. The situation escalated quickly, with the security guard allegedly refusing to assist her further. According to Bebe, the guard’s behavior was not just unprofessional but deeply discriminatory, leading her to believe that she was targeted because of her ethnicity.
In a follow-up post, Bebe elaborated on the encounter, stating, “I believe this to be a hate crime because I am Albanian. He would not let me take his name. He continued to mentally abuse me to make me feel like he was more powerful than he was. Not one of the women at @LUFTHANSA stepped in or said something. He would not give me his name. But I just found out he works for ATSG, a service company document control hired by LUFTHANSA.”
Bebe’s post quickly garnered attention, sparking conversations about racial discrimination and the treatment of minorities in various settings, including international travel. Many of her fans and followers expressed their support, condemning the actions of the security personnel involved and calling for a thorough investigation.
In response to the incident, a representative for Lufthansa Airline spoke to TMZ, stating that they had reached out to Bebe to gather more details about what had transpired. The airline emphasized that “diversity and equal opportunity are core values to their company,” and assured that they would “thoroughly investigate” the matter.
