Bella Hadid is opening up about some very painful and difficult experiences.
In a news interview on the Victoria’s Secret “VS Voices” podcast, the 25-year-old model spoke about the abuse she went through in her past relationships. She candidly shared:
“I constantly went back to men – and also, women – that had abused me and that’s where the people pleasing came in.
I started not having boundaries, not only sexually, physically, emotionally, but then it went into my work space. I began to be a people-pleaser with my job.”
Bella stated that even back when she was younger, she always felt she was not heard by those closest to her:
“I always felt like my voice was never heard growing up. I grew up around men – whether that was in relationships or family or whatever that was – where I was constantly told that my voice was less important than their voice.”
Her experiences when she was younger affected her relationships as she got older:
“Then moving into relationships growing up, and not having the boundaries of being able to stick up for myself and have my voice being heard, affected me in my adult relationships very intensely.
My nervous system would crash. It was fight or flight.”
Bella has tried over the years to keep her love life away from the spotlight, though she did have a high-profile relationship with The Weeknd from 2015 to 2016. They got back together in 2018 and split up for good in 2019.
She is now in a relationship with art director Marc Kalman. They started dating in July 2020 but did not go public until July 2021:
“It sounds very cliche, but to not have the energy of everyone else and their projections being projected back onto you is one of the most powerful things of all time.
It’s a cliché for a reason because it’s a fact that it works.”
