Benedict Cumberbatch and his family just went through a harrowing experience.
The 46-year-old actor’s home in London was broken into by former chef Jack Bissell. The chef previously worked at the Mayfair hotel.
Benedict was inside his home at the time of the break in. His wife Sophie Hunter and three sons Kit, 7, Ha, 6, and Finn, 4, were also with him when it happened.
Jack was accused of kicking through the iron gate at Benedict’s house. When he got inside, he reportedly declared:
“I know you’ve moved here, I hope it burns down.”
Jack pleaded guilty to criminal damage in a court appearance earlier this month. The criminal damage included pulling up a plant and throwing it at the wall along with spitting at the intercom and dismantling it with a fish knife.
He was fined the amount of 250 pounds and was issued a three-year restraining order which prevented him to go anywhere near Benedict, his family, or the area they live in.
Jack’s motives behind the attack are still unclear as of yet. He fled the scene after the break in but was arrested when his DNA was discovered on the intercom.
An insider close to Benedict’s family said to outlets:
“Naturally all of the family were absolutely terrified and thought this guy was going to get in an hurt them.
Luckily it never went that far. Benedict and Sophie have had many sleepless nights since worrying that they may be targeted again. The fact that it was a targeted intrusion makes it a lot more scary.”
