Benny Blanco is sharing the sweet story of how his romance with Selena Gomez began, and Selena is opening up about why she decided to let the world in on their relationship. The 36-year-old producer and the 32-year-old singer and actress have been going strong for over a year, and their connection seems to get deeper every day.
During a recent chat on Kai Cenat’s stream, Benny spilled all the details about how their first date came to be—and how he didn’t even realize it was a date at first.
“Our first text, when we were asking each other out on a date,” Benny began, recounting how it all started. “She asked me out. It was crazy, it was crazy. She literally asked me out. We were just talking and then she was like, ‘Oh, you want to get dinner?’”
Benny admitted he was clueless about the romantic context of their evening. “I went to dinner and I had no idea… I’ve been friends with her for years, we’ve been friends for like ten years plus, maybe 15. I met her when she was so much younger,” he shared.
The confusion didn’t stop there. “We were just talking and she was like, ‘Oh, let’s go get dinner tomorrow,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to this thing with my friends. Why don’t you come hang out with me first, then we’ll go link for dinner.’ So, we just went and got a drink first, and I didn’t even realize we were on a date!”
The moment of clarity came later. “She was like, ‘I would’ve worn something different to this date,’ and I was like, ‘Wait, what? We’re on a date?’ I had no idea!” Benny recalled, laughing.
After spending more time together, it clicked. “Two days later, I was like, I think she likes me. Then I literally just kissed her, and the rest is history.”
Since then, the couple has been inseparable. “We spend every day together… as many days as we can. Every day. Yeah, she’s my best friend. Actual best friend,” Benny said.
Selena recently addressed why she decided to go public with their romance in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I guess this is the safest I’ve ever felt in one, and I see a future with this person,” Selena explained. She added that being open about their relationship helps take the pressure off.
“When you put a little bit out there, people are not as hungry to hunt you down. Like, if they hear something, they’re going to, but if you’re like, ‘I did it,’ they’re like, ‘Oh, well, there’s you, just going to Sushi Park,’” she said.
Still, Selena values keeping certain parts of their life private. “But there’s so much of my relationship people don’t see, that’s just mine,” she added.
Their love story is even sweeter knowing the pair have collaborated on several tracks over the years. Benny co-wrote and co-produced Selena’s “Kill Em With Kindness” and “Same Old Love” from her Revival album. They also worked together on “I Can’t Get Enough” and Selena’s 2023 single “Single Soon.”
With their bond growing stronger by the day, Benny and Selena seem to have found something truly special. From co-writing hit songs to sharing quiet, everyday moments, their love story is one that fans can’t help but root for.
