Beyoncé had a bit of a scare onstage in her hometown of Houston this past weekend, but in true Queen Bey fashion, she handled it like a pro.

On Saturday night (June 28), the 43-year-old icon was performing “16 Carriages” as part of her Cowboy Carter Tour when a technical malfunction caused one of her stage props—a flying red car—to tilt mid-air. While soaring above the crowd in the car, one side suddenly dropped lower, causing Beyoncé to slide down the seat and nearly fall out.

She kept singing at first, but then quickly called to stop the performance. The prop was safely and swiftly lowered to the ground, and Beyoncé exited through the stage floor to regroup.

When she returned to the stage a few moments later, she didn’t miss a beat—nor the opportunity for a little humor.

“If I ever fall, I know y’all would catch me,” she said with a smile, earning huge cheers from the crowd. She then resumed the performance on solid ground, finishing the song without incident.

The Houston concert marked one of two highly anticipated hometown shows, following a successful stretch of tour dates in the UK and Europe. And while the malfunction could’ve been much worse, Beyoncé’s calm and charisma turned it into a moment fans won’t soon forget.

After the show, Beyoncé’s team at Parkwood Entertainment released a statement to clarify what had happened.

“Tonight in Houston, at NRG Stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt. She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident,” the statement read.

In true Beyoncé style, she even shared a photo from the moment in her Instagram recap of the night—proof she’s unbothered and always in control, even when things go a little sideways.

It’s unclear whether the flying car will remain part of the performance in future shows, but one thing’s certain: nothing can stop Beyoncé from putting on a spectacular night.
