Beyonce and Kelly Rowland are teaming up once again — for a good cause.
The longtime friends and former members of Destiny’s Child are reuniting to give back to their hometown of Houston. The pair will team up with Harris County to create a permanent housing complex for those who are unhoused in the city’s midtown area.
The Knowles-Rowland House will reportedly cost around $8.4 million to build. It is receiving a sizable donation from the American Rescue Plan, to the amount of $7.2 million, alongside other supporters, among which is Texas’ Rice University.
The planned housing complex will hold 31 new units of permanent housing for those in need, to be built at the Bread of Life gymnasium.
According to Harris County records, the housing project will also include several services for the residents, such as case managers, peer specialists, and service specialists to mental and behavioral health assistance and transportation.
Bread of Life local pastor and executive director Rudy Rasmus expressed his gratitude in a statement, thanking Beyonce, Kelly, and their fellow Destiny’s Child band mate Michelle Williams for their contributions to Houston throughout the years:
“This will be our fifth housing development in downtown in Precinct 1 over these last 17 years, and we’re just really grateful to continue to help end homelessness in our count.”
Judge Lina Hidalgo said that there are plans for a “bigger launch” event in September for the project when Beyonce comes to Houston for her Renaissance World Tour.
