Beyonce is listening — and she is taking action to make things better.
It’s been announced that she will be changing the lyric to one of her new songs. Her team has shared that the star will be switching up a lyric from “Heated,” a track off her latest album Renaissance.
The announcement was made after Beyonce received a huge amount of backlash over the use of one derogatory term in particular. The lyric that has been affecting listeners can be found in “Heated,” with a line in the song going, “Sp*zzin’ on that ass, sp*zz on that ass.”
People called out the singer, citing that this is viewed as an ableist term.
Well, it seems that Bey has heard her fans. Her team released a short statement to address the concerns, saying:
“The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced.
The road to success is always under construction.”
Beyonce is not the first artist to be called out for using the term in recent months. Just this June, fans spoke out when the same word was found in a lyric off of Lizzo’s new single, “Grrrls.” Lizzo likewise released an apology and dropped a new version of the track.
