Billie Eilish surprised fans last month by revealing a stunning new look – she ditched he iconic green-and-black tresses and bleached her hair blonde.
The 19-year-old singer’s attendance at the 2021 Grammy Awards had actually sparked speculations that she was wearing a wig. Billie gave fans the first glimpse of her new look a few days later, and just hours before her big reveal, she shared a cryptic video on TikTok seemingly showing that her signature green hair was indeed a wig.
On Friday (April 2), Billie gave fans another look at her hair – this time, the shaggy layers have been spruced up with a fresh cut.
During a Q&A with fans on IG story, Billie finally opened up about her hair transformation – which apparently took a looooong time.
Responding to a fan who asked, “Why did u hided [sic] your blonde hair?”, Billie shared that the entire process “took six weeks to accomplish…”
She also shared a photo from January 16, 2021, which showed what her hair looked like after the “first round” of bleaching – the top of her head was already blonde, but her lower part was more of a red-orange hue.
For those not familiar, going from dark hair to blonde involves several rounds of bleaching – and if not done properly, can be severely damaging to hair.
Her response to another fan wondering if her hair felt “damaged or healthy” after the bleaching process may also provide clues as to why it took her such a long time to complete the hair transformation.
“honestly so healthy and i wasn’t expecting that at all. it’s actually healthier than it’s been in a longgggggg time,” she told the fan.
In mid-March, Billie revealed that she’d gone blonde on Instagram, posting a video with swing music in the background and what looks like 60’s-inspired outfit and make-up. “did you guess correctly?” she captioned the clip.
She also shared a mirror selfie captioned, “pinch me” and bid farewell to the iconic neon green-and-black hair on Instagram Story, which she captioned, “BYE GREEEEEN.”
