Billie Eilish ditched her signature oversized wardrobe and stunned fans with a whole new look on the cover of British Vogue.
In a total 180 from her usual baggy style, the GRAMMY-winning singer served up a “classic, old-timey pin-up” look to go with her newly bleached blonde hair. She rocked a custom Gucci corset and skirt, lacy Agent Provocateur lingerie, plus elbow-length latex gloves on the cover. She also wore a bunch of other custom, formfitting body suits for her feature.
“I’ve literally never done anything in this realm at all,” she told the magazine.
“Y’know, besides when I’m alone and sh-t,” she added with a smirk.
Last year, Billie revealed to Vanity Fair that she finally got a tattoo, but told fans they “won’t ever see it.” But it looks like she’s since changed her mind about it, because her outfits ended up revealing parts of the much-discussed tattoo on her right upper thigh and hip.
Her new look comes just days after she dropped “Your Power” – the latest single from her upcoming sophomore album – which she describes as an “Open letter to people who take advantage — mostly men.”
Billie has been pretty outspoken when it comes to issues like body-shaming and the objectification of women’s bodies in music, and she already has a pretty good idea of how people are going to react to her new look.
She even dropped a few during her cover story interview – like: “‘If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’”
“My thing is that I can do whatever I want,” she said in response to the theoretical question, saying she’s all about “what makes you feel good.”
“If you want to get surgery, go get surgery,” she added. “If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f–k it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”
The new look comes just days after she dropped her new single, “Your Power,” which she describes as an “Open letter to people who take advantage — mostly men.” Her cover story interview also talks about an instance where Billie was taken advantage of when she was younger – the writer noted that “The details are hers.”
She’s already aware of the potential backlash she’s going to get from her new photos: “‘You’re going to complain about being taken advantage of as a minor, but then you’re going to show your boobs?’”
To that she says, “Yes I am, motherf—er! I’m going to because there’s no excuse.”
“Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore,” she said. “If I am, then I’m proud. Me and all the girls are hoes, and f–k it, y’know? Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin — or not — should not take any respect away from you.”
