After Wednesday’s (August 19) court hearing on Britney Spears’ conservatorship, her dad’s role as her conservator remains unchanged.

Britney has been under a court-approved conservatorship since 2008. Her dad stepped back from his role as her sole conservator in September last year, putting her long-time care manager, Jodi Montgomery, temporarily in charge.

Earlier this week, Entertainment Tonight reported that Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, filed court documents on Monday (August 17), requesting to have dad, Jamie Spears, removed as her conservator.

“[Jamie] previously served as sole conservator of her person since 2008. Britney is strongly opposed to having [Jamie] return as conservator of her person. Rather, she strongly prefers to have Ms. Montgomery continue in that role as she has done for nearly a year. … Britney would like Ms. Montgomery’s appointment as conservator of her person to be made permanent,” court documents obtained by the outlet state.

“Britney is strongly opposed to Jamie continuing as sole conservator of her estate,” the documents state. “Rather, without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, she strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role.”

But according to TMZ, the hearing on Wednesday (August 19), was just a scheduled status conference and “certain legal documents need to be filed before her issues go before a judge, and that hasn’t happened”.

ET obtained new court documents and reported that “the temporary letters of conservatorship were extended through Feb. 1, 2021.” Britney’s attorney also has until Sept. 18 to file a petition.

However, Jamie appears to be pushing to reinstate Andrew Wallet as co-conservator alongside him. He and Andrew used to oversee Britney’s finances – until he voluntarily stepped down from the role in March 2019. Jamie also stepped down as conservator months later, citing “personal health reasons.”

According to People, Jamie filed court documents on Tuesday (August 18) requesting the court to appoint Andrew co-conservator once again. He’s also asking the court to grant him and Andrew the “power to obtain all documents and records” relating to Britney’s estate – including “all contracts, information relating to credit cards, bank statements, estate planning documents, receivables, and any and all powers of attorney.”

The court documents obtained by the outlet also indicate that a hearing has been set for September 16.
