Britney Spears is taking a leave of absence from the spotlight.

The iconic pop superstar announced that she is now on an “indefinite work hiatus”. Her announcement came as a shock to her millions of fans who were all anticipating her return to Vegas for her new residency, Britney: Domination.

Britney’s decision stems from her desire to focus on her family as her father is recovering from a life-threatening illness. In a statement released by her team, it was revealed that Jamie Spears fell seriously ill two months ago and was rushed to the hospital. He underwent a procedure for a ruptured colon, and is now back home and recovering after 28 days under medical care.

Britney herself made a statement to address the situation and her decision. Here’s what she said:

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me. Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”

She posted an old photo with her and her parents on her Instagram account, along with emotional words about the recent events.

Those who have already purchased tickets for the new residency are eligible for refund.

Britney’s younger sister Jamie Lynn also took to social media to thank fans for their prayers and messages of support and love. She wrote on her Instagram Story:

“Thank you to everyone who reached out to our family, and for all of your prayers.

All of you have been there for us through so much, and we truly appreciate each of you!! Love y’all bunches!”

Sending all our well-wishes to the Spears family at this difficult time.
