Britney Spears Still Does NOT Want To Perform

Britney Spears wants to make significant changes in her conservatorship – and has expressed her “desire not to perform at this time.”

Back in January 2019, Britney announced that she was taking an indefinite work hiatus following her dad, Jamie Spears’ hospitalization a few months prior. At the time, the popstar had several projects lined up – including her Vegas residency show “Britney: Domination” and a new album – which were all put on hold.

Britney has been under a court-approved conservatorship since 2008. Her dad stepped back from his role as her sole conservator in September last year, putting her long-time care manager, Jodi Montgomery, temporarily in charge – until August 22, to be exact. But it looks like Britney wants that particular arrangement to continue.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, filed court documents on Monday (August 17), which state, “[Jamie] previously served as sole conservator of her person since 2008. Britney is strongly opposed to having [Jamie] return as conservator of her person. Rather, she strongly prefers to have Ms. Montgomery continue in that role as she has done for nearly a year. … Britney would like Ms. Montgomery’s appointment as conservator of her person to be made permanent.”

“Britney is strongly opposed to Jamie continuing as sole conservator of her estate,” the documents state. “Rather, without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, she strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role.”

Her lawyer also broke down the conservatorship into three stages: (1) “triage” — where her conservators “rescued her from a collapse, exploitation by predatory individuals and financial ruin”; (2) her comeback, during which she regained “her position as a world class entertainer”; and (3) which would reflect Britney’s current pared-down public profile.

He also wrote that Britney thinks that her conservatorship ” must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes.”

Among those shifts is Britney’s “desire not to perform at this time.”

Fans have been campaigning for the conservatorship to end over fears for the pop icon’s well-being, launching the #FreeBritney movement in social media in April 2019. There were also reports that even Britney’s mom, Lynne, was liking #FreeBritney posts on the internet, per Entertainment Tonight.

Jamie has recently commented on the fan-started campaign, saying, “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue.”

“It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter,” he continued. “It’s no one else’s business.”

“I love my daughter,” he added. “But this is our business. It’s private.”

A status hearing in the case is scheduled for Wednesday (August 19) in Los Angeles.
