Many years ago, there was a little show that could, called Freaks and Geeks. The show, which only lasted for one season, developed a cult following and starred a group of talented individuals who have since gone on to build amazing careers in entertainment.
Among the cast members of Freaks and Geeks were Busy Phillips and James Franco.
And now, in Busy’s upcoming memoir This Will Only Hurt A Little, the actress reveals that she was assaulted by James on set.
According to Busy, she and James were doing a scene together, during which she was supposed to lightly hit him in the chest. But apparently, James did not know that the hit was scripted and he was caught off guard. So when she hit him, she states that James just lost it:
“He grabbed both my arms and screamed in my face, ‘DON’T EVER TOUCH ME AGAIN!’ And he threw me to the ground. Flat on my back. Wind knocked out of me.”
Busy goes on to say that co-star Linda Cardellini encouraged her to report what happened to her manager, but she chose not to. She also said that James apologized to her the following day after the show’s director and producers prodded him to – but he was never fully reprimanded for his behavior.
Earlier this year, James was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior by multiple women. He addressed those allegations in an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert back in January:
“In my life, I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I’ve done. I have to do that to maintain my well-being. I do it whenever I know that there’s something wrong or needs to be changed. I make it a point to do it.
The things that I heard were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to shut them down in any way. I think it’s a good thing and I support it.”
James has not responded to Busy’s allegations as of the moment.
