Camila Cabello, the talented songstress behind hits like “Havana” and “Señorita,” recently shared a deeply personal aspect of her life during an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard. In a candid conversation, the 27-year-old singer opened up about her experience with love, intimacy, and the significance of her first relationship.
Camila revealed that she lost her virginity at the age of 20, a milestone moment that she shared with her first boyfriend, Matthew Hussey. Their love story began on an unexpected stage, the set of the Today Show, back in February 2018. Reflecting on that fateful encounter, Camila fondly recalled, “I was outside where they have the TV with the scripts… I had actually listened to his podcast before. I listened to his podcast before as a fan because he had, like, a dating podcast.”
Following their initial meeting, Camila and Matthew embarked on a romantic journey that blossomed over dinner that same evening that they met. It marked the beginning of Camila’s first serious relationship, a milestone she acknowledged came later in life than expected. “We went to dinner that night and that was my first relationship. It was late for my first relationship. I was 20,” she admitted.
When asked if she had any prior sexual experience before Matthew, Camila responded with a resounding “No!” Her first time making love, as she described it, occurred within the context of their relationship, imbued with tenderness and intimacy. “That was my first time having sex. First lovemaking was at 20, 21… It was literally lovemaking. It was beautiful,” she shared, reflecting on the significance of the moment.
Describing Matthew as “a really great person,” Camila said: “It was like the perfect first relationship.” She emphasized the positive impact their relationship had on her life. Beyond romantic chemistry, their connection broadened her horizons, introducing her to new interests and perspectives. “He just really expanded my references,” she remarked, highlighting their shared love for cultural touchstones like “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” and Studio Ghibli films.
Despite the end of their romantic relationship in June 2019, Camila harbors no ill will towards Matthew, who has since found love and tied the knot with Audrey Le Strat. Instead, she views their time together as a transformative chapter in her life, one that paved the way for new beginnings.
Just a month after her breakup with Matthew, Camila found herself embarking on a new romantic journey with fellow musician Shawn Mendes. Their whirlwind romance captured the hearts of fans worldwide, solidifying Camila’s reputation as a hopeless romantic with a penchant for soulful ballads and heartfelt lyrics.
