Chadwick Boseman was laid to rest in his final resting place six days after he passed away.
According to his death certificate, the Black Panther star was buried at the Welfare Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton, South Carolina – just a few miles from his hometown of Anderson.
The people of Anderson held an outdoor screening of Black Panther on the day of his burial in honor of their hometown hero. Fans wore masks and followed social distancing guidelines – some even came wearing Black Panther costumes. But they were there to remember Chadwick.
Chadwick passed away on August 28 at the age of 43, after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
His passing was announced in a statement posted on social media, which reads:
“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.
Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.
A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.
It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.
He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side.
The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
His passing came as a surprise to many – he never publicly spoke of his health struggles. Hollywood stars and countless fans shared touching tributes on social media.
His death certificate states his immediate cause of death as multi organ failure, and the underlying cause as colon cancer.
Chadwick’s close friends and loved ones also gathered to pay their final respects to the late actor in a private memorial on Saturday (September 5) in Malibu, California.
In photos obtained by The Sun, his wife Taylor Simone Ledward, as well as Black Panther co-stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Winston Duke, were photographed attending the private memorial held at a spot overlooking the ocean.
There was a beautiful table display that held flowers and Chadwick’s photo. There was also gentle music from a hang drum during the event.
Rest in power, Chadwick. You are missed.
