Chris Brown’s latest visit to the UK took a serious turn this week. The 36-year-old singer was arrested on Thursday morning (May 15), just hours after landing in Manchester. The arrest stems from a two-year-old alleged assault that took place in a London nightclub in February 2023.

According to authorities, Brown has now officially been charged with “grievous bodily harm with intent.” The case was presented in court on Friday (May 16), where District Judge Joanne Hirst ruled that the charges were “too serious” to be heard in a magistrates’ court. Instead, the matter is being moved up to the crown court system.

Chris is expected to appear next on June 13 at Southwark Crown Court in London. Until then, he’ll remain in custody. The judge also denied him bail, stating there was enough evidence to consider the Grammy-winning singer a “flight risk.”

At the time of his arrest, Brown was in the UK for his Breezy Bowl XX European Tour, which is set to include ten shows. The tour is scheduled to kick off on June 8 in Amsterdam, just days before his court date. No word yet on whether those dates will be rescheduled or canceled.

Brown has had a long and controversial history with the law, dating back to his 2009 felony assault conviction involving then-girlfriend Rihanna. Over the years, he’s been involved in multiple legal incidents, including altercations and accusations of violent behavior.

Chris Brown has not made any public statement regarding the charges. His legal team also hasn’t issued a formal response. Fans and critics alike are now watching closely to see how this unfolds—especially with a major tour potentially hanging in the balance.
