Chrissy Teigen has been open with fans about grieving the loss of her and John Legend’s unborn child, Jack, whom she lost to complications 20 weeks into her pregnancy. Over the weekend, she shared a beautiful tribute to honor her late son on what would have been his due date.
On Saturday (February 20), the model and cookbook author posted a photo of her wrist, which sported bracelets with the name of her and John’s children, Luna and Miles, and a third, for Jack.
“Today was your due date. We love you forever,” she captioned the photo.
She also shared a photo on her feed, which she captioned, “Can smile all day but thinking of you on your due date, bug.”
Chrissy and John announced they were pregnant with their third child in August, and Chrissy has been candid with fans about her pregnancy journey. At the end of September last year, the couple shared the heartbreaking news on social media that they lost their baby boy.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote on Instagram. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever,” she continued.
She also shared an emotional message for her son. “To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
Chrissy later wrote an emotional essay about what she experienced in the weeks that followed, and shared with fans how they explained the loss to their kids.
“Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see,” she wrote. “Thank you so much to every single person who has had us in their thoughts or gone as far as to send us your love and stories. We are so incredibly lucky.”
