Christy Carlson Romano is on the mend after a terrifying accident left her with multiple injuries to her face.
The former Disney Channel star, 40, took to Instagram on Friday (February 8) to reveal that she was “shot in the eye” while in Texas, celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday with a clay pigeon shooting outing.
“So I got shot in the eye. It was not fun,” Christy began in her Instagram video, reassuring fans that she is now “safe.”
In the caption, she detailed how the incident occurred: “Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Christy credited Brendan for his quick response, saying, “Brendan immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital. I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye.”
While she was lucky to avoid even more severe injuries, Christy revealed that one fragment remains lodged behind her eye. “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time,” she explained. “Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
Despite the shock of the incident, Christy shared that the experience left her feeling overwhelmingly grateful. “With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant. 🙏”
Fans and friends flooded her comments with well wishes, sending support as she recovers from the ordeal.
We’re wishing Christy a full and speedy recovery!
