Demi Lovato is letting her music do the talking.
Just days after her split with former fiancé Max Ehrich, Demi teased a new song coming – and many think it’s a song about their breakup.
“Music is always there for me… song in the am,” the “Anyone” singer tweeted on Tuesday (September 29) night.
Hours later, Demi released the track, “Still Have Me,” on social media – but, it appears her team wasn’t quite prepared for the song’s drop.
“❤️ Now let’s just get it up on streamers 😅,” Demi’s manager, Scooter Braun, commented on Instagram.
According to TMZ, the song, which includes lyrics like “I’m a mess and I’m still broken / But I’m finding my way back / And it feels like someone’s stolen / All the light I ever had” and “Like the world disappeared / And I’m laying right here / While the silence is piercing / And it hurts to breathe,” does reference her recent breakup.
Sources say although it’s been written a while back with some friends, Demi did some last-minute tweaks to reflect their split – and may provide an insight into how Demi is dealing.
The chorus goes: “I don’t have much but at least I still have me (I still have me) / And that’s all I need. / So take my faith but at least I still believe (I still believe) / And that’s all I need / I don’t have much but at least I still have me.”
Last week, news broke that Demi and Max have called it quits just two months after The Young And The Restless actor put a ring on it.
“It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” a source told PEOPLE on Thursday (September 24). “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”
However, as days passed, more sources began speaking out.
“Demi and Max’s relationship shifted once the couple got back to work and were separated,” the source tells ET. “Max is in Atlanta working on set and Demi is in L.A. The couple is used to being together and the separation made [them] realize they were moving too fast.”
Demi also felt that Max “”wasn’t being honest about things” at times.
“She’s worked very hard to get to a good place and isn’t willing to put up with anything that doesn’t serve her in a positive way,” the source added. “The breakup was for the best.”
Over the weekend, more breakup drama arose when Max went on IG Stories claiming that he found out about the breakup the same time everyone else did – when the reports came out.
A source disputed Max’s claims, telling PEOPLE, “Demi made Max aware that the relationship was over and it was going to come out in the press,” a source close to Demi told PEOPLE.
Another source recently also told E! News that Demi is so done with Max. “Demi wants no contact with Max at this point. She is completely embarrassed at the way he’s been acting and putting their relationship on blast via social media. She wants nothing to do with him.”
Max has since gone on social media – again! – to seemingly confirm that he has finally spoken to Demi. Or, at the very least, gotten closure he needed.
“One chapter finally closed this am. And now I turn the page,” he shared in a note on his story. “Focused on wellness, love, God, my family, friends, and my art. Good vibes only :)”
Multiple sources have also talked about the former couple’s “conflicts” in the weeks leading up to the breakup. One insider close to Demi told PEOPLE, “It was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max’s intentions weren’t genuine.”
According to the source, Demi even believed that Max was ″trying to further his career by using her name behind her back.″
The sources adds that ″It was hard for Demi to admit she made a mistake when it came to Max,” but she’s “doing okay.”
