Demi Lovato is NOT OKAY with seeing a “fat shaming” ad on her Instagram feed.
The 26-year-old star was disgusted over an advertisement for a video game that showed two types of women – one “obese” and one ”pretty”. We know, right?!
Taking to her Instagram Story on Friday (January 04), Demi voiced out her absolute outrage over the ad and the message it sends out. Here’s what she wrote:
“Why is this fat shaming bulls**t on my feed? So many things wrong with this ad.
1. You can be ‘pretty’ at any weight. This is absolutely harmful to anyone who is easily influenced by societal pressures put on us from the diet culture to constantly be losing weight in a world that teaches us to equate our value and worth with the way we look and especially anyone in recovery from an eating disorder.”
She concluded with these powerful words:
“So please Instagram, keep this bulls**t off mine and other’s feeds who could be easily effected by this disgusting advertisement.
With how aware people are becoming of mental health and mental illnesses, I expect you guys to know better by allowing this advertisement on your app. And shame on the game.”
Demi has always been open and honest about her struggles with body positivity, as well as battling her demons of addiction. She suffered a life-threatening drug overdose in July of last year, and has since been very focused on her recovery.
Since leaving the rehab facility a couple of months ago, Demi has slowly been getting back on social media. She recently wrote about how she’s “never going to take another dday in life for granted.”
And on New Year’s Eve, she shared on her Instagram Story how she is ringing in 2019: With a glass of Martinall’s sparkling apple cider.
We salute you for advocating for body positivity and self acceptance, Demi. Happy New Year, and we’re rooting for your health, sobriety, and well-being!
