Demi Lovato is living their truth.

The 28-year-old popstar debuted their podcast 4D With Demi Lovato at midnight on Wednesday (May 19), and kicked things off with an announcement.

“I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” Demi said at the beginning of the premiere episode. “Over the past year and a half I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work and through this work, I’ve had the revelation that I identify as non-binary.”

“With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them,” they added, explaining, “I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering.”

They also shared that they’re still “learning and coming into myself,” and pointed out that, “I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson.”

They also noted that “I will also be accepting if people slip and say ‘her/she’ because I know that being in my position, it’s going to take a while for people to get used to.”

Sharing a clip of the episode on Instagram, Demi wrote, “Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you…you’ve seen the good, the bad, and everything in between. Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras. Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all.”

After sharing a similar announcement to what they said in the video, they added, “This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work.”

“Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me. I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones,” she continued. “Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way xox.”

For the premiere episode of their podcast, Demi invited nonbinary performance artist and author Alok Vaid-Menon. During their discussion, Demi revealed that it was actually one of Alok’s poetry shows that  helped inspire their personal discovery – they attended the event with fellow non-binary musician Sam Smith.

“It was the first time in so long that I’ve ever heard someone else speak my truth and then realized, oh, that’s my truth too,” Demi shared.

4D With Demi Lovato rolls out new episodes every Wednesday starting May 19th.
