Fashion coincidences happen all the time, but when It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar stepped out wearing the same pink floral brooch as director Justin Baldoni, fans couldn’t help but wonder—was it intentional?

Baldoni first wore the standout accessory at the It Ends With Us premiere back in August, while Sklenar sported an identical piece at an Oscars party last week. Naturally, speculation kicked in, with fans questioning if this was a subtle show of solidarity between the two.

So, was there a hidden meaning? Not quite. When asked about it directly, Sklenar set the record straight. “Honestly, no. I wish I could say there was,” he told People. “That was a total happenstance. I woke up in the morning and saw an article and I was like, ‘Oh, damn.’ I literally had no idea. I had an idea I wanted to wear like a floral brooch of some kind and that was the color that I liked the best. And, lo and behold, someone also wore that prior to me wearing it.”

It turns out the matching moment was purely accidental, but the timing still raised eyebrows, especially given the ongoing controversy surrounding Baldoni.

Back in December, It Ends With Us star Blake Lively filed a sexual harassment case against Baldoni. Sklenar showed his support for Lively by sharing a link to her New York Times article and encouraging his followers to read it.

When asked on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair party if he was hoping to support Lively amid the ongoing lawsuits, Sklenar dodged the question, instead choosing to focus on the film. “I hope people just focus on why they made the movie,” he responded.

Accidental or not, the matching brooch moment has certainly kept fans talking—but it seems Sklenar would rather the conversation stay on the film itself.
