Shakira seems to be sending a pointed message to her ex’s new flame.
The 46-year-old superstar singer sat down for an interview in which she candidly touched on her breakup with 36-year-old soccer player Gerard Pique and how the split impacted her. During the interview, she also seemingly dropped a message aimed at Gerard’s new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti.
There have been many rumors that Gerard cheated on Shakira, which led to the end of their relationship. Since then, Gerard has gone official with Clara, while Shakira recently dropped a diss track that is widely believed to be about them.
Now, Shakira looks to be taking another swipe at Clara in a new interview with journalist Enrique Acevedo on canal Estrellas.
The mother of two spoke about her children with Gerard, saying:
“You don’t achieve all your dreams in life but life has a way of compensating you and I think life has certainly done it with me with the marvelous two children I have who fill me with love every day. I depend on myself, I have two children and I have to be a lioness for them.”
She shared where she finds strength:
“That strength comes out of experiencing a painful loss, of accepting it, of tolerating a frustration, of understanding that life doesn’t always bring us what we want. There are dreams that are broken and you have to pick up the little pieces from the ground and put yourself together again, and also be an example to my children.”
Shakira also shared how the split has impacted her:
“Now I’ve got more confidence in myself. I didn’t know I could end up being strong. I always thought I was more fragile. It’s true that I’ve got a bit of everything but you have to have faith.”
She candidly spoke about working on her diss track:
“Someone should have taken a picture of how I started and how I finished the session with Bizarrap. It was an outlet for my healing process. My lyrics are more effective than a visit to a psychologist.”
The star added that she feels using her voice is her duty:
“Through my songs I have always felt the duty to use my voice and lend it to those who cannot speak. I have realized that women are at a key moment for society, at a point where the support we can receive from each other is very relevant.”
And she dropped this comment that seems to be a direct dig towards Clara:
“There is a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.”
