Dylan O’Brien has always been open about being an LGBTQ+ ally—but now, his own sibling is speaking out and offering a different perspective.
In a recent interview with Vulture, the 33-year-old Teen Wolf actor talked about his role in the queer film Ponyboi and shared a personal connection to the project.
“I have a trans, nonbinary sibling and I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world,” Dylan said.
But Julz O’Brien, Dylan’s sibling, took to Instagram to clarify some important context. In response to a Gay Times article highlighting Dylan’s quote, Julz posted a pointed comment.
“Kinda funny that this article didn’t ask me a single thing about myself? It’s about me and uses my photo. I’m not even tagged,” they wrote.
Julz added further clarification: “I’m actually trans masc and go by he/they pronouns 🫶🏼😌.”
When a commenter brought up Dylan’s girlfriend, allegedly described by fans as homophobic and racist, Julz responded with a personal revelation: “He also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. He didn’t check in when I had top surgery. He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more 😏.”
The tension is now public, and while Dylan may have intended to shine a light on his allyship, Julz’s comments reveal a rift that fans weren’t expecting.
