Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn are officially parents!
After a pretty secret pregnancy, Ed revealed the exciting news on Instagram on Tuesday (September 1).
Sharing a photo of a pair of adorable navy blue baby socks set on top of a knitted striped baby blanket, he wrote: “Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter.”
He also shared their baby girl’s beautiful name: Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
“We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back,” Ed added.
Last month, reports came out that the couple were expecting their first child. According to The Sun, Cherry was in her third trimester – and they were expecting their baby at the end of summer.
However, neither Ed, who’s notoriously private when it comes to his personal life, nor his wife, Cherry, officially confirmed it at the time – not surprising, since the 29-year-old artist didn’t even confirm he and his wife tied the knot until months after.
But Ed has previously talked about “massively” wanting to be a dad.
Back in 2017, he told Zane Lowe in an interview: “I wanted to be a dad, like, last year. I’m ready, let’s go — tour bus babies, little fat, chubby babies that just walk around.”
He also shared that he planned to step back from music while raising his kids. “When they hit four or five and start primary school, I’m just out. I think [Bruce] Springsteen took an extended break when his kids went to school. I think that’s going to be me. I want to set up a little studio in the countryside and have new artists come down.”
Congrats to the proud parents!
