Ed Sheeran has revealed that he was in talks to write the theme song for the 2021 James Bond film, No Time To Die — but Billie Eilish beat him out for the blockbuster movie’s track!
The 31-year-old “Shape Of You” star shared that he lost out on the opportunity and that it went to Billie and her brother and frequent collaborator Finneas. The powerhouse duo contributed the titular track to the film, which peaked inside the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ultimately won Billie her first Oscar.
In a recent appearance on the That Peter Crouch podcast, Ed stated:
“I was within a f-cking gnat’s pube of doing one [a Bond theme song], and they changed directors, and then they just changed scripts and that was it. We’d done all the meetings, I started writing it.”
He candidly went on to say:
“I’m not gonna pretend it didn’t hurt not doing it.
But if they came back I’d be like, ‘Yeah, yeah, of course, yeah!’”
The film was supposed to be directed by Danny Boyle. But director Cary Joji Fukunaga eventually helmed the movie, and he brought Billie on.
