Elle Fanning is getting real about her experiences in the movie biz.
The 24-year-old The Great actress has revealed that she lost a role in a major film franchise because of her follower count on social media.
In a new appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Elle candidly spoke about the role she lost. She detailed that there was a big franchise film that she went out for — and she was overlooked completely because of Instagram.
She shared:
‘I did try out for… I’m not going to say what it was, but I didn’t get a part once for something big because – it might not have just been this reason, but this was the feedback that I heard – was because I didn’t have enough Instagram followers at the time.”
She went on to add:
“[It] was a little like… I firmly don’t believe in not getting a part [for that.]
It was for a bigger thing, a franchise thing.”
Elle then said that she does not feel pressure to join a big franchise:
“I don’t feel that [pressure]. I don’t.”
She stated that it isn’t a big thing and that “you also don’t know if they’re going to work sometimes, which is scary.” Elle elaborated:
“I would never say no to those things, but I would have to have a meeting and really all to see what it is. I didn’t have to go through what Nick [Nicholaus Hoult] did… they made him try the [Batman] suit on.
You need a balance. If you want to do your indie work, especially in producing now… [having a big franchise] does make you breathe better.”
