By now, millions of fans all over the world have heard about Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez’s engagement.
But did you know that Ellen DeGeneres may have been responsible for the engagement? On Monday’s episode of The Ellen Show, the host explained how she got the ball rolling towards A-Rod & J.Lo’s new relationship status.
“I don’t want to take credit for this but I may have given A-Rod a little push that he needed,” Ellen said during the opening monologue.
She went on to share a flashback reel of the last time Jennifer guested on the show. Ellen gave her a gift for the couple’s two-year anniversary – a clock with a photo of J.Lo and A-Rod kissing.
“This is a clock,” Ellen explained in the November episode. “And it’s basically to remind him that time is ticking and he should hurry up and propose.”
Cut to Monday’s episode, where Ellen claimed it, “so, yeah, I kinda…I did that.”
She also talked about J.Lo’s cute gesture during the announcement – when the “On The Floor” singer shared the news of their engagement on Instagram, she tagged Ellen!
“I guess that’s why she tagged me. I’m pretty sure I’m the reason,” she quipped.
She also had a sweet message for J.Lo on her engagement.
“J.Lo, I’m very very happy for you – not just because you took my advice, but because you seem very happy together,” she said, before joking adding, ”If two extremely beautiful filthy rich people can find love, there’s hope for all of us.”
