Ellie Goulding is addressing that viral rumor saying she cheated on Ed Sheeran with Niall Horan.

Back in 2014, fans believed that Ed’s 2014 kiss-off anthem track titled Don’t was about Ellie. Some even speculated that the song was written after Ellie strayed from their relationship and went out with Niall Horan.

As it turns out, the reality was that Ellie and Ed never even dated~

Recently, Ellie spoke about the rumor. The “Lights” hitmaker revealed how it affected her professional life and her mental health.

Ellie told Daily Mail that it was “fascinating how many people are interested” in the rumor. She noted that the rumor was years old, and then went on to reveal:

“You know, completely honestly, it cause me a lot of trauma, actually.”

Ellie explained how the speculation put her career on pause:

“I can laugh about it now, but it changed things for me.

I became kind of reclusive. I didn’t want to perform. It was nothing and it was private – and it cause me such a huge amount of grief and I resent it.”

The situation, she said, made her envious of her friends who were not in the spotlight:

“I envy the fact that my friends just spent their 20s having flings and one-night stands and what every 20-something goes through in private. But every single thing I did was written about.”

Ellie candidly stated:

“I was made to feel like a terrible person and I really struggled with that because I know I’m not.”
