Ellie Goulding is officially a mom!
Her hubby Caspar Jopling went on Instagram Story Sunday (May 2) to announce the birth of their first child.
Sharing a photo of a beautiful bouquet of flowers, he wrote, “Mum and baby both healthy and happy,” and added, “Extremely grateful.”
He also noted that “I don’t ever address the public attention that comes with Ellie’s job. But during this magical and personal moment we would really appreciate being able to enjoy our privacy. Thank you x.”
Ellie and Caspar tied the knot in August 2019 in York Minster, England. She was already 30 weeks pregnant when she debuted her baby bump on Vogue in February.
She shared that they found out she was pregnant during a trip that she and her art dealer hubby went on to celebrate their first anniversary.
“Caspar and I went away briefly when we were allowed to for our one-year anniversary, and that’s basically when we found out,” she says. “It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary. That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality.”
While the news caught the couple by surprise, considering the ongoing pandemic and all – Ellie says “It wasn’t something I had planned for right now, [and] I knew it was a more solitary journey because of what’s going on. I think that made me keep it very secretive and made me very protective over it.” – she reveals that carrying a baby in her womb made her “feel human.”
She totally embraced the experience though, and also shared some snaps on Instagram writing, “I’ve received so many kind messages of love and well wishes today, thank you so much.” She also thanked the magazine.
In March, she opened up about why she kept her pregnancy on the DL for the most part, telling The Telegraph that she “needed time to get my head around it.”
“I’ve always defined myself as a touring musician. That’s who I am and what I do. Being a mother wasn’t in my mind frame, I’ve never felt any woman had to be defined by motherhood,” she said.
“I’ve been so surprised about how happy everyone has been for me, it’s been incredible to have all this positivity,” she added.
Luckily, she’s pals with other first-time moms – including Princess Eugenie and Katy Perry – and would turn to them for advice.
She even said this of Princess Eugenie, who welcomed her first child in February: “She’s been a great friend throughout this. We’ve talked a lot about pregnancy and she’s been inspirational because she just takes everything in her stride.”
Congrats to the new parents!
