Elliot Page and Emma Portner are getting divorced.
They announced their decision to split in a joint statement:
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”
Their announcement comes three years after they shared with fans that they secretly tied the knot in January 2018 – they began dating in 2017.
At the time, Elliot shared three photos on Instagram – including their wedding rings and a couple-y photo of them in the woods. “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” Elliot wrote in the caption.
Two months ago, when Elliot came out as transgender in a letter to fans on Instagram, Emma publicly showed her support by sharing Elliot’s post and writing, “I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
She also commented on Elliot’s post, writing, “I love you so much, Elliot.”
