Elliot Page has publicly come out as transgender.

Elliot, formerly known as Juno star Ellen Page, went on social media Tuesday (December 1) to share a letter with fans.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society,” he wrote in the letter shared on Instagram and Twitter.

He also opened up how “fragile” his joy is, noting that he’s fearful over discrimination and violence against the trans community.

“I also ask for patience. My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared,” he wrote. “I’m scared of invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence. To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering. The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.”

He also discussed the high number of transgender people who have been murdered in 2020 alone, calling out those in positions of power “who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community.”

Elliot concluded his letter on a hopeful note, and voiced his support for the rest of the trans community, writing, “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”

His post has since gotten a lot of love and support from fans, celebs and advocates alike.

“Elliot rules!” Miley Cyrus commented on Instagram.

“Sending love to my friend, @TheElliotPage. You inspire me with your strength, courage and honesty,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted.

Anna Kendrick retweeted Elliot’s letter, writing, “Elliot Page’s words here are so beautiful and so eloquent, and he is reminding me that we can all be brave and joyful, even when things are scary. And this year especially, that reminder is such a GIFT. Sending them love/praise/gratitude/well-wishes etc etc etc etc ❤️❤️❤️”

“This is a beautiful moment. Much love to you @TheElliotPage. ❤️,” Nia Vardalos shared.

“Elliot, I love you, so much, I’m proud of you, and admire you. Please keep being a beacon of courage, compassion, and strength for all of us. 🙏❤️🙏,” James Gunn wrote on Twitter.
